My rental car has lousy tires and we just got a ton of snow. I can’t make it up small hills with the current traction control setup. Anyone know how to shut it off so I can make it up small knolls?

Autozam AZ1 for your time.

Little button under the hand brake. Probably won’t let you have full slip but better than nothing. Page 163:

for the 09-10 models

car off, hand brake up
start car
depress brake 2 times brake brake (hold 2nd brake while doing next step)
handbrake down, up, down, up
release brake and depress brake 2 more times

your trac light should then come on and will turn off when u turn the car off..so u gotta do this every time you start the car. if you start the car and wait over a min, u will have to turn off car and start over. if you screw up the sequence, just turn the car off and start over.

this might still work for 2016

Should be a button to press, should light up the TRAC OFF light

I love this and hope it’s real. Now, how do you access launch control?

I bet unplugging your ABS sensors at the wheels would also work, but not recommended since ABS is pretty sweet.

What body style? (Depending on where in the world you are, this affects things, as the car known in some countries as the 2016 Yaris Sedan is actually a Mazda2.)

So you’ll get up the hill better with less traction? Something isn’t adding up for me here...

the traction control does not allow for wheel spin, so it cuts power, stops, then surges forward with more wheel spin, cuts power again...repeat. etc.

It is not an iA, its a base model 4 door hatch with no optional equipment.
